Parent Information Parent's Promise: On my honor I will try to share my daughter's new Girl Scout interests and show appreciation for her efforts to live up to the Promise and Law; to give her opportunities to practice her new skills at home; to attend the troop events to which I am invited; and support Girl Scouting by working for and contributing to activities and funds that make Girl Scouting possible in our community. Dues: Troop dues are $6.00 per girl per month this year. Dues help pay for badges, craft supplies, film and developing costs. We request payment at the beginning of each month. Unfortunately, girls will not be able to register for field trips if their dues are not up to date. As always, you are encouraged to pay ahead! Uniforms: Junior Girl Scout uniforms are recommended. Girls are encouraged to wear their Junior uniforms on meeting days and on field trips. Uniforms are required for high visibility functions such as a flag ceremony, or a parade. Uniforms are available at The Girl Scout Shop, 125 Charles St., Providence, RI 02904 or The Friendship Shop at Camp Hoffman in Kingston. Khaki cargo pants and a white polo shirt are an acceptable substitution. Uniform supplies can also be purchased online at www.girlscouts.org Meetings: This year we will again be meeting at Fogarty Memorial School on Mondays, from 7 - 8:00pm. Girls with excellent meeting attendance will be recognized at our End of Year Award Ceremony. Badges: All girls are welcome to complete additional badges on their own. Badge requirements can be copied from the troop manual any time. Refreshments: Because we will be meeting after dinner this year, we will not have snacks at meetings. Volunteering: In order for your daughter to have the best Girl Scout experience possible, it is essential that we have parental participation. We all have many activities competing for our attention and the troop leaders can't be expected to do all the troop responsibilities alone. But together we can! There are many ways to help our troop. Please look over the opportunities below and ask Dawn or Jenn what is involved. Please find a way you can help, so all the girls will have an outstanding scouting experience.
Financial Assistance: It is our hope that every girl will participate in many troop activities as she desires. If you find any scouting expense is a financial burden for your family, please notify your leader (Dawn). Financial assistance is usually available from the troop, service unit or council levels. Religious Awards: Girl Scouting encourages girls to grow strong in faith and recognizes that religious instruction must come from families and faith communities. Girl Scouts of all faiths are encouraged to participate in the program specific to their faith. God and Me (Grades 1-3, Protestant), God and Family (Grades 4-5, Protestant), Family of God (Ages 7-9, Roman Catholic), and I Live My Faith (Ages 9-11, Roman Catholic) programs are a few of those offered. Some programs may be completed at home, others require administration through a place of worship. For more information, religious organizationcontacts or to view recognitions/awards visit www.praypub.org or consult your local place of worship. For placement of a religious award on a uniform, see uniform and badge placement on our links page. Photos: All digital photo contributions are gladly accepted. Please email to dawn@troop984.com |
